January 2015 was 0.75 degrees C above the global 20th Century average, about 0.95 degrees C above 1880s levels.

Over the Earth as a whole temperatures were second-highest, atmospheric temperatures in the northern hemisphere of the planet were the highest ever recorded for the month of January during the era of satellite monitoring, which dates back to 1979.
